In April 2026, Jobs Kreate travelled to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, as part of our continued effort to make cruise career opportunities more visible, understandable and accessible to talents across Malaysia.
Represented by Keith and Jaye, the Jobs Kreate team hosted two separate sharing sessions during the trip — one with students at Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu, and another public session at Phileo Gelato for individuals who were actively exploring cruise career opportunities.
More than just recruitment sessions, both events were created to open meaningful conversations about the cruise industry, the realities of working abroad and the preparation needed for candidates who hope to build a career beyond their local environment.

Creating early awareness among students at Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu
The first sharing session was held on 24 April 2026 at 11:00am at Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu.
The session was designed to introduce students to the cruise industry and help them understand how their current training could connect to future career opportunities. The audience included both newly enrolled students and those who were close to completing their courses, making the session especially timely for students beginning to think seriously about their next step after graduation.
During the talk, Keith and Jaye shared an overview of cruise ship careers, the types of roles available, employer expectations, working culture and the level of preparation required before joining the industry. The session also gave students a clearer picture of how skills in culinary, hospitality, service and communication can be developed into international career pathways.
One important part of the discussion was the reality faced by many young candidates and families when considering overseas or cruise-related employment. For students from B40 family backgrounds, preparation costs and processing fees can be a genuine concern. Jobs Kreate believes that early exposure and transparent information are important so students can plan ahead, ask the right questions and make informed decisions together with their families.
The session concluded with a certificate presentation by Madam Suriyah Dullah, Head of Culinary at Ascot Academy Kota Kinabalu. Jobs Kreate would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Madam Suriyah and the Ascot Academy team for welcoming us and supporting initiatives that help students better understand real career opportunities beyond the classroom.
Engaging Sabahans through a public cruise career sharing session
The second session was held on 25 April 2026 at 2:00pm at Phileo Gelato, Kota Kinabalu.
This public sharing session was created for individuals who were genuinely interested in working on cruise ships and wanted to better understand the journey before applying. Unlike a general career talk, the session focused on attendees who already had curiosity or motivation toward cruise employment, allowing the conversation to be more direct, practical and relevant.
Keith and Jaye shared insights into life and work on board, the recruitment process, candidate readiness, service expectations and the importance of having the right mindset before pursuing a cruise career. Attendees were also able to raise questions and gain a more realistic understanding of what the industry requires.
Beyond cruise careers, the session also reflected Jobs Kreate’s broader mission to create more employment pathways for Sabahans, including opportunities in West Malaysia. For many candidates, relocation or working away from home can be a major decision. Through face-to-face sharing sessions like this, Jobs Kreate hopes to provide the clarity, encouragement and guidance needed for individuals to take the next step with confidence.

Bridging information gaps and building career confidence
For Jobs Kreate, the Sabah trip was a reminder that access to opportunity often begins with access to information.
Many capable candidates may have the interest, discipline and potential to succeed in the cruise or hospitality industry, but they may not always have the right exposure, guidance or understanding of the process. By meeting students and jobseekers directly in Sabah, Jobs Kreate was able to listen to their concerns, answer their questions and provide practical guidance based on real industry expectations.
These sessions were also part of our commitment to building trust with candidates before they begin their career journey. We believe that candidates should not only know what opportunities are available, but also understand the responsibilities, challenges, costs and preparation involved before making a decision.
The Sabah trip continues a year of community-facing work for our team. Earlier in 2026 we formalised an MOU with Ambitious Academy to support talent development, in December 2025 we hosted a Viking River open interview session for shortlisted candidates, and in May 2026 we exhibited at the myStarjob Fair in Kuala Lumpur. Each touchpoint reinforces the same approach: meet candidates where they are, share honest information and support better-prepared career decisions.
