On Monday, 29 June 2026, Jobs Kreate visited Sunway University for a cruise career sharing session with students from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management — an afternoon focused on helping hospitality students understand how their studies can connect to career pathways at sea.
The session was led by the Jobs Kreate team, including Keith Foo, Founder & Managing Director, and was presented as a “boarding pass to a career at sea.” It combined a live industry sharing session with interactive games and prizes, creating a lively, approachable environment for students to explore a side of hospitality that many may not have considered closely before.
For students preparing for careers in hospitality and tourism, cruise work can be exciting but unfamiliar. The session focused on practical awareness: what roles exist onboard, what international cruise employers look for, how candidates can prepare early, and why career decisions are best made with the right information from the start.
Connecting Hospitality Studies to Careers at Sea
A cruise ship brings much of the hospitality world together in one working environment — accommodation, food and beverage, housekeeping, guest services, entertainment, retail, spa and wider onboard operations. For hospitality and tourism students, that makes cruise careers a natural extension of what they are already studying.
During the session, students were introduced to the different departments onboard and how different strengths suit different roles. Some students may be drawn to guest-facing service and communication; others are stronger in operations, attention to detail, teamwork, hosting or back-of-house support. Rather than promoting a single role, the talk encouraged students to see how their own interests and training could connect to wider cruise career pathways, and what the realities of working on a cruise ship actually look like.
For many candidates, preparation begins long before an application is submitted — through service exposure, communication, grooming, discipline and a clear understanding of employer expectations. Students who are still building their profile can read more about how to build hospitality experience before applying for cruise jobs.
What Cruise Employers Look For
Cruise tourism is part of the wider global hospitality and travel industry, but it has its own working environment, pace and expectations. A cruise ship is at once a hotel, a restaurant, an entertainment venue and a service operation working together at sea — which is why employers often look beyond academic qualifications alone.

Service attitude, communication, presentation, discipline, adaptability and readiness to work in a multicultural environment all matter. The session helped students understand that a cruise career is not simply about travelling the world, but about delivering consistent service while living and working onboard — and that the rewards come with a real commitment and a contract environment they should understand before moving forward.
This is especially relevant for those considering their first serious step into the industry. Students and fresh graduates can read more about cruise ship jobs for SKM students and fresh graduates.
A Session Led by the Jobs Kreate Team
The session was delivered by the Jobs Kreate team, with Keith Foo, Founder & Managing Director of Jobs Kreate, presenting the cruise career pathways and closing the session. The team shared practical insight from the cruise and hospitality recruitment industry: the mindset needed to succeed, the service standards expected by international employers, and how Malaysian candidates can prepare themselves for opportunities abroad — from interviews and documentation to contracts and employer requirements.
For students preparing to enter the workforce, hearing directly from people who work with cruise and hospitality employers helps turn the idea of a cruise career into something concrete and achievable. At Jobs Kreate, we believe career guidance should be realistic and useful: candidates should understand both the opportunities and the responsibilities before deciding whether a career at sea is right for them.
Learning Through an Interactive Boarding-Pass Session
The session was designed to be more than a one-way lecture. Interactive games and prizes kept students engaged, while the boarding-pass theme made the afternoon feel relatable and memorable.
The format encouraged participation and made it easier for students to ask questions and picture how their hospitality training could translate into real career possibilities. The energy in the room reflected the students’ curiosity and openness to learning about international hospitality pathways — a reminder that career awareness works best when the information feels practical, honest and connected to a student’s own future.
Why Career Awareness Matters
At Jobs Kreate, career awareness is the first step of responsible recruitment. Before candidates apply, they should understand the industry, the working environment and the commitment a contract at sea may involve — so the decision to pursue a cruise career is an informed one, made together with their families where appropriate.
Sessions like this also help universities and colleges expose students to real-world industry expectations in a practical, relatable way. Education partners who would like to introduce their students to cruise and international hospitality careers are welcome to get in touch about hosting a career talk.
This visit continues a year of community-facing work for our team: the Viking River open interview session in December 2025, the MOU with Ambitious Academy in January, cruise career sharing sessions in Sabah in April, the myStarjob Fair in May, our onboard visit to Genting Dream at Port Klang, a cruise career talk at Ambitious Academy, Johor, and a public career sharing session in Sabah in June. Each touchpoint follows the same approach: meet candidates where they are, share honest information, and support better-prepared career decisions.
